CUSTOM GLASS SKYLIGHTS

Custom glass skylights provide a premium architectural solution for bringing natural light into homes, renovations and new builds. Designed to suit specific openings and roof structures, they allow for larger and more striking daylight openings that enhance the overall design of the home.

At Benchmark Roofing and Skylights, we supply and install bespoke glass skylights manufactured to suit the exact requirements of each project. These skylights are commonly specified by builders and architects looking to incorporate custom daylight openings into their designs.

Suitable for All Roof Types

Custom skylights can be manufactured to suit a wide range of roof types, including:

• Tile roofs

• Metal roofs

• Concrete hobs

• Architectural roof designs

We can supply skylights in square, rectangular, circular and oblong shapes depending on the design requirements of the project.

Frames can also be painted to match your roof colour, creating a clean and integrated finish.

Where required, we can also manufacture skylights with a 5° pitch built into the frame, which helps improve water run-off and allows rain to naturally clean the glass surface.

Each skylight is designed to suit the roof pitch, structural span and waterproofing requirements of the project, ensuring a fully weatherproof installation.

HIGH PERFORMANCE GLASS

Our custom skylights can be supplied in both single glazed and double glazed configurations, depending on the size of the skylight, project requirements and energy performance goals.

All skylights are manufactured using laminated and toughened safety glass that complies with Australian building standards, providing strength, durability and safety.

For projects requiring improved thermal performance, skylights can be manufactured as double-glazed units, which help regulate indoor temperatures and improve insulation.

Double-glazed skylights typically include argon gas-insulated glass units and Low-E (low-emissivity) coatings, which help reduce heat transfer through the glass.

Benefits include

 Increased Natural Daylight

 Improved energy efficiency

 Reduced reliance on artificial lighting

Reduced heat gain and heat loss

 Improved indoor comfort

Low-E glass helps reflect radiant heat while still allowing natural light to enter the space, making it a popular choice for energy-efficient homes and BASIX compliant designs.

EXAMPLE GLASS SPECIFICATIONS

For roof pitches under 30°, typical glass configurations include:

 Single glazed options

  • 10.38mm laminated glass – spans up to 800mm

  • 12.38mm laminated glass – spans up to 1050mm

  • 11.52mm laminated heat-strengthened glass – spans up to 1500mm

  • 13.52mm laminated heat-strengthened glass – spans up to 2000mm

Example double glazed skylight (1000 × 2000mm)

6mm clear toughened glass / 12mm argon spacer / 11.52mm laminated heat-strengthened glass

Example double glazed circular skylight (1800 × 1800mm)

8mm clear toughened glass / 14mm argon spacer / 13.52mm laminated heat-strengthened glass. Glass specifications are engineered based on skylight size, span and structural requirements.

BASIX AND ENERGY EFFICIENCY

single glazed skylights

In NSW, new homes and many renovations must comply with BASIX (Building Sustainability Index) requirements. BASIX is designed to improve the energy and water efficiency of residential buildings.

Natural daylight plays an important role in BASIX design. Skylights increase daylight penetration into the home, which can reduce the need for artificial lighting during the day.

When combined with double glazing and Low-E glass, skylights can help improve the thermal performance of the building and assist architects and builders in meeting BASIX energy targets.

CUSTOM SKYLIGHTS FOR BUILDERS

We regularly work with builders, architects and project managers to supply custom skylights for residential construction projects. Early coordination with the builder helps ensure the skylight opening, structure and waterproofing are planned correctly during the construction process.

Whether the skylight is installed on a concrete hob, tile roof or metal roof, we can supply glass skylights built to suit the specific requirements of the project.

For larger skylights, we can also arrange crane installation using glass vacuum lifters to safely position the skylight into place.
