EXPLORE BENCHMARK'S FAQS
If the issue is minor, such as worn seals, loose flashing, or a mechanical part not operating smoothly, a repair is usually all that’s needed. However, if the skylight is leaking repeatedly, has failed glazing, is heavily weathered, or is 15+ years old, a full replacement often provides a better long-term solution.
Leaks typically occur when flashing deteriorates, seals break down, or the skylight was installed incorrectly. Sometimes the problem isn’t the skylight at all - it can be surrounding roof issues. We inspect the entire area to find the true cause and provide a watertight fix.
Fogging usually means the glazing seal has failed, allowing moisture to get between the panes. In these cases, the glass or the entire skylight unit may need replacement. We can assess the condition and recommend the best option.
We work with all major skylight types: fixed, opening, solar-powered, electric, roof windows, custom skylights and older models. We also specialise in VELUX products for replacements and upgrades.

The cost of installing a Velux skylight depends on the size of the skylight, the roof type, the pitch of the roof and the complexity of the installation. Factors such as tile, metal or slate roofing, ceiling depth and access to the roof can all affect the final price. A site inspection or review of building plans is always required to provide an accurate quote.
Yes. Velux skylights can be installed on metal roofs using specially designed flashings that ensure the skylight is sealed correctly and remains fully weatherproof. Our metal roof flashings are custom made and welded in one piece, eliminating the need for rivets or silicone and creating a stronger, more durable waterproof seal. Some Velux models require the skylight to be installed at a minimum roof pitch of around 15°. Where the roof pitch is lower than this, a special pitch flashing can be used to raise the skylight and achieve the correct installation angle.
When installed correctly with the proper flashing system, Velux skylights are designed to be completely weatherproof. Most skylight leaks occur due to poor installation rather than the skylight itself.
Yes. Velux skylights use double glazed glass with Low-E coatings and argon gas insulation, helping reduce heat transfer while still allowing natural daylight to enter the home.
Yes. Velux skylights can be installed in existing homes without the need for major renovations. Installation typically involves creating an opening in the roof and constructing a ceiling shaft to allow natural light to enter the room below. Many homeowners install skylights simply to bring more natural light into darker areas of the home such as hallways, kitchens or living spaces.
